Zinc Iron Plating

OUR SERVICES

From regular maintains work to new contracts, Sinco Gates provides excellent project resolutions and the most cost-effective approach to any structural metal rehabilitation jobs. Sinco Gates is dedicated in achieving customer satisfaction in all projects. Our mobile sandblasting services are providing the best surface preparation, anti-corrosive zinc iron plating and protective coatings. We can sandblast all surfaces like steel, concrete, aluminum, and wood. We successfully completed multiple projects including sandblasting steel, sandblasting boats, sandblasting bridges and ferry terminals, sandblasting concrete, and what is most unique is mobile zinc iron plating. Our technology allows zinc coat application during the time of sandblasting. This methodology prevents oxygen from contacting newly cleaned metal surface after sand blasting process. The zinc coat is applied by the way of thermodynamic application at the ultrasonic speed. Zinc particles are embedded into the metal surface with thermodynamic forces which provides the excellent adhesion (better than hot galvanizing). We can do sand blasting and zinc coating in any weather conditions hot or cold, dry or wet, in the snow or under the rain. For visual information regarding sandblasting and zinc iron plating please visit our sandblasting pictures and video. We guarantee you will be 100% satisfied with our services. With Sinco Gates you will rely upon quality and cost-effective equilibrium.

Sandblasting Process:

Rust is the greatest enemy of all metal, and its corrosive effects are devastating and leading to destruction of metal products with financial losses. These losses affect consumers and businesses related to metal products and structures.

A two-year study by NACE put the corrosion cost at $2.5 trillion each year, or around 3% of global GDP. The study also estimated that implementing best practices in corrosion prevention could result in as much as $875 billion in savings. Production and manufacturing, transportation, construction, utilities, and infrastructure are most affected industries impacted by corrosion.

After corrosion has appeared on the metal, the structure will start to deteriorate. The sand blasting method to remove corrosion is the act of force propelling abrasives from sand blasting gun to rusted surfaces. Abrasive blasting will improve a surfaces appearance by removing stains, manufacturing compound residue, corrosion, and old coatings.

Zinc Plating Process:

One of the most efficient anti-corrosive agent is Zinc! A process known as zinc plating is widely used to protect metals against the forces of corrosion. There are different methods of zinc applications. The technology used by our company is quite unique, innovative, and arguably the most effective method of zinc application.

Our process involves thermo-dynamic sandblasting and zinc iron plating. Protective zinc coat is applied during sandblasting stage. This allows a very limited time to oxygen-with-metal contact. Basically, we apply the zinc coat right during the surface preparation. Our equipment applies zinc in the oxygen free environment.  How do we achieve that? Along with the power of the compressed air, we use the combustion energy of the diesel fuel. Combustion is a chemical process that produces heat and light energy by combining a fuel and oxygen. So, there is a lack of the oxygen in the application area (excellent for surface prep).

The combination of compressed air and combustion energy creates the power of ultrasonic stream which in combination with abrasives allows to clean any heavily corroded metals and previously applied coatings and all debris.

What makes our zinc iron plating outstanding? The zinc particles (or any other metals used for coatings like copper, aluminum and so on) create a monolete coat with a little of pores and great adhesion reaching 100 MPa. The high kinetic energy of compressed air and fuel combustion power allow to significantly reduce the use of abrasives. The water and oil contaminants existing in the compressed air are not affecting the quality of surface preparation due to temperature and evaporation accompanied to combustion. Ability to use any abrasives and their combinations. Unique interlapped process of surface preparation and protective coat application. Application of the zinc coating (or other metals) is possible in any weather conditions (winter temperature, moisture or rain environment) without affecting the quality of the protective applications.

Lead Paint and containment:

For project with lead paint, the area must first be properly contained to ensure the safety for all personal and environment. Complete containment of a work area is necessary when dealing with hazardous materials. Containment solutions may also be necessary when sandblasting near environmentally sensitive areas. For these projects with create comprehensive environment protection plans.  For contamination of the lead paint and debris, we use the products like Blastox.

It is also important to note that Blastox is a complex calcium silicate. Blastox has been used for lead paint abatement for decades without a single failure in a landfill. Lead will not plate to iron oxide (rust). Once iron is exposed to environmental conditions that initiate the formation of iron oxide, the lead plating reactions reverse themselves and the lead becomes available for leaching. Lead solubility can also be minimized by controlling the pH of the leaching solution. Once the buffering effect is overcome, however, lead may become available for leaching.

Blastox utilizes an initial pH adjustment followed by additional stabilization reactions that produce a long term stable waste. The three stabilization reactions are summarized here:

  1. The addition of Blastox creates an alkaline matrix in which lead is stable. This elevated pH instantaneously stabilizes the lead saving on lead paint disposal costs.
  2. Silicate reactions change the chemical form of the lead from a lead oxide, carbonate, or
hydroxide to a lead silicate which is insoluble.
  3. Hydration reactions encapsulate the waste into a cementitious mass which limits the
    gravitational flow of water.

The above reactions occur simultaneously and all are equally important in the stabilization of lead waste. The silicate and hydration reactions promote the long term stability of the waste. The end result of the three reactions is an encapsulated, insoluble lead silicate. The change in alkalinity (pH) is a by-product of the silicate and hydration reactions and is not the primary stabilizing reaction. The resulting lead silicate will not leach into acidic, neutral, or basic solutions. The reactions are not reversible and help with lead paint disposal. If Blastox is present, the lead will be converted to a lead silicate and become insoluble.

Lead paint abatement is the process of abrasive blasting lead paint and encapsulating the lead particles rendering them non-hazardous.
